✍️ Taking Notes During a Recording

Wave now lets you type notes while recording, so you can capture ideas, action items, or reactions in real-time

Updated over 2 weeks ago

🔍 Why Take Notes While Recording?

Whether you’re in a meeting, an interview, or a brainstorm, typed notes give you:

  • Context for later review

  • Faster recall of key moments

  • Custom highlights for AI summaries

  • A backup in case something wasn’t captured clearly

  • Personal insights—like tone or follow-ups

🛠 How It Works

  1. Start a recording as usual.

  2. Tap the ✏️ notes icon (bottom left).

  3. Type freely as the recording runs—your notes are saved instantly.

  4. You can close and reopen the notes panel anytime during the recording.

✨ Pro Tip: Your notes help shape the AI summary

If you flag a moment like:

Big moment at 09:10 — “We’re all in on this.”
Wave may weight that section more heavily when creating your summary.

🧠 What You Can Use Notes For

  • Timestamped reactions (e.g., Petra raised a concern at 12:45)

  • Action items (e.g., Send draft to team by Friday)

  • Emotional context (e.g., They seemed unsure here)

  • Follow-up reminders

  • Speaker cues or names

📍Where to Find Your Notes Later

After your session, notes appear alongside the summary and transcript on all platforms.

Platform Availability

  • Mobile (iOS & Android) — Full notepad available during active recordings. Tap the ✏️ icon on the recording screen.

  • Web (app.wave.co) — Notes tab available on any session. Add or edit notes with keyboard shortcuts (Cmd/Ctrl+S to save).

  • Desktop (Mac & Windows) — Notes tab available on any session with full markdown support and auto-save. Note: the notepad is available on sessions, but not as an overlay during active recordings.

Notes sync across all platforms — take notes on your phone during a meeting, then review and edit them on web or desktop later.
