Use Wave in Slack
Ask Wave about your meetings from a Slack DM, a thread, or /wave, and get a recap in Slack after each recording.
Wave for Slack lets you ask about your recorded meetings without leaving Slack, and sends you a recap after each recording. Answers come only from your own Wave recordings, and only you see them unless you share them.
Set it up
Add Wave to your Slack workspace from wave.co/slack with Add to Slack, or from Settings → Integrations → Slack on app.wave.co. Approve the install on Slack's screen. A workspace only needs to do this once.
In Slack, Wave shows you a private Connect Wave button. Select it and app.wave.co opens.
Check that the account shown is the one you record with (use Switch account if it isn't), then select Continue with Slack. Slack asks you to confirm it's you; this makes sure only you can connect your Slack account. You'll see You're connected, and Wave sends you a welcome DM in Slack.
Everyone in the workspace connects their own Wave account the same way. If you don't have one yet, get Wave first.
Some workspaces require an admin to approve new apps. If yours does, Slack sends your install request to the workspace admin. Once they approve it, type /wave connect in Slack to get your Connect Wave button.
Ask Wave three ways
- DM Wave. Message Wave directly, or open it from Slack's AI apps sidebar.
- @Wave in a thread. Type
@Waveand your question in any thread, for example@Wave what did we agree on the launch date? - /wave anywhere. Type
/waveand your question in any channel or DM, for example/wave what did I commit to this week?
Under each answer, a Sources line links to the sessions Wave used. Only you can open them.
Type /wave help any time for a reminder of the commands.
Share an answer
In a channel, only you see Wave's answer. To post it for everyone, select Share to thread.
In a DM, select Share…, choose a channel under Post to, and select Share. When an answer is shared, the source titles appear without links, because other people can't open your sessions.
Recaps
After each recording, Wave DMs you a recap with the summary and your open action items.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/wave recaps dm off | Stops the recap DMs. /wave recaps dm on turns them back on. |
/wave recaps here | Run it in a channel to post recaps of your meetings there: Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams recordings from the Wave meeting bot, and meeting recordings from the Wave desktop app. |
/wave recaps here all | Posts recaps of every recording to that channel. |
/wave recaps off | Run it in the channel to stop recaps there. |
Recaps only cover your own recordings. Each person turns channel recaps on for themselves.
You can also manage recaps on Wave's Home tab in Slack: turn Recap DMs on or off, and select Stop next to a channel.
Disconnect
Any of these unlinks your Wave account from that Slack workspace:
- Type
/wave disconnect. - On Wave's Home tab in Slack, select Disconnect.
- On app.wave.co, go to Settings → Integrations → Slack and select Disconnect next to the workspace.
Wave stops answering you and sending you recaps in that workspace. You can connect again at any time.
Privacy
- Wave never reads your Slack channels. It only sees messages that mention it and its own conversations with you.
- Answers come only from the Wave recordings of the person who asked.
- Nothing Wave says reaches a channel unless you share it or turn on channel recaps.
- Questions you ask in Slack count toward the same daily question limit as the Assistant in the Wave app. Wave for Slack works on free and paid plans.
Not available in Slack yet: a shared team library, using Slack messages as context, and contacting Wave support. To reach support, use the Wave app.
Troubleshooting
- "Wave isn't in this channel yet." The channel is private. Type
/invite @Wavein it, then try again. - "This link has expired." Go back to Slack and select Connect Wave again.
- "You signed in to Slack as a different person." The Slack account you confirmed with isn't the one that selected Connect Wave. Sign in to Slack in your browser as yourself, then select Connect Wave again from your own Slack account.
- Waiting on an admin. Your workspace requires approval for new apps, and Slack has sent the request to your admin. Once they approve it, type
/wave connectand select Connect Wave. - "You've hit today's question limit for Wave." You've used today's questions across Slack and the Wave app. Try again later.
- Answers don't include a meeting you expected. Wave answers only from the account you connected. If you record with a different login, run
/wave disconnectand connect again with the right account.
