What is the Wave Chrome Extension?
The Wave Chrome Extension lets you record audio from any browser tab, your microphone, or both — right from Chrome. Recordings are automatically transcribed and summarized in your Wave library.
Signing In
After installing, click the Wave icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the extension. Tap Get Started to sign in.
Important: Use the same sign-in method you use in the Wave app (Google, Apple, Facebook, or Microsoft). If you use a different method, your recordings won't appear in your library.
Recording Modes
The extension has two audio source toggles at the top of the popup:
Tab Audio — Captures audio playing in your current browser tab (great for meetings, lectures, videos, and podcasts)
Microphone — Captures your voice through your mic (great for voice memos and narration)
You can enable both at the same time to capture tab audio and your microphone together. At least one source must be enabled.
If you have multiple microphones connected, a dropdown will appear to let you choose which one to use.
How to Record
Navigate to the tab you want to record
Click the Wave icon in your toolbar
Choose your recording mode (Tab Audio, Microphone, or both)
Tap the red Record button
If prompted, allow microphone access in the browser dialog
A timer and audio level indicator will appear while recording
When finished, tap Stop — your recording will upload automatically
You can also tap Cancel during a recording to discard it without saving.
Viewing Your Recordings
Your five most recent recordings appear at the bottom of the extension popup. Tap any recording to open it in your Wave library at app.wave.co.
Recordings that are still being transcribed will show a Processing badge. Transcription usually completes within a few minutes.
Tips
You can switch tabs during a recording — the extension will offer to switch the capture to your new tab
You can switch microphones mid-recording if needed
Recordings appear on all your devices since they sync to your Wave account
The extension works great for recording Google Meet, Zoom (browser), YouTube, podcasts, and more
Troubleshooting
I don't hear any audio in my recording
Make sure Tab Audio is enabled and that the tab is actually playing audio. Check that the audio level bars are moving during recording.
Microphone permission was denied
Click the lock icon in your Chrome address bar, find "Microphone," and set it to "Allow." Then try recording again.
My recordings aren't showing up in the Wave app
Make sure you signed into the extension with the same account you use in the Wave app. Try signing out and signing back in with the correct method.
