Saving and Exporting Wave AI Chats
Email yourself a copy of an Ask Wave conversation, export one from the desktop app, and know exactly what clearing a chat deletes.
Wave keeps your AI conversations, so you can come back to one later. When you want a copy outside the app (to forward, file, or keep before you clear it), the iPhone and Android apps can email you the conversation, and the Wave desktop app can copy, export, or email an Ask Wave conversation.
Email yourself a chat (iPhone & Android)
Open the chat you want a copy of: Ask Wave across all your sessions, a folder chat, or a single session's chat. All three work.
Tap the … button to the left of the message box.
Tap Email this conversation. You'll see Sent. Check your inbox. when it's on its way.
The email goes to the address on your Wave account. Its subject starts with Chat History: followed by what the chat was about: the session title, the folder name, or Ask Wave for a chat across all your sessions. A Continue this chat in Wave button opens the same chat at app.wave.co.
Email this conversation is greyed out until the chat has at least one message. If a conversation is too long to fit in one email, the email holds the most recent messages and says so.
The same … menu also holds Open session (or Open folder), Clear conversation for session and folder chats, and New chat in Ask Wave.
Copy or export a chat (desktop)
In the Wave desktop app, open Ask Wave, then click More (the ⋯ button in the header):
- Copy conversation puts the whole conversation on your clipboard.
- Export as Markdown saves it as a
.mdfile. - Email conversation opens a new message in your email app. If the conversation is long, the email holds the start of it and the full text is copied to your clipboard so you can paste it in.
These options are for Ask Wave conversations. Session and folder chats in the desktop app don't have them.
On the web
The web app doesn't have a chat export. Use Copy under any answer to copy it. In a session's chat, Add to notes adds an answer to that session's notes.
What Wave saves on its own
You often don't need an export at all, because chats persist.
- Session and folder chats are stored on that session or folder. Reopen it and the conversation is still there, on any device.
- Ask Wave conversations across all your sessions are saved as separate threads. Find them under History on mobile and desktop, and in the Chats list on the web.
What clearing actually deletes
This differs by the kind of chat, and it matters if you're about to clear one.
- A session or folder chat: clearing permanently deletes that conversation. It's gone on every device. Email yourself a copy first if you want to keep it.
- An Ask Wave conversation: starting a new chat leaves the old one in your history. It stays there until you delete it from the history list.
Where to find the controls:
In a session or folder chat: … → Clear conversation, then confirm. In Ask Wave: … → New chat, or the pencil icon at the top right, starts a new conversation. To delete an old one, open History and touch and hold it.
FAQ
Not as a PDF. The desktop app can export an Ask Wave conversation as a Markdown file; otherwise chat export is by email. To get a session's summary or transcript into a document, use sharing and exporting instead.

From your phone, Wave always sends to your own account address; forward it from your inbox. From the desktop app, Email conversation opens a draft in your own email app, so you can address it to anyone.
