How to Import YouTube Videos into Wave

Import YouTube videos into Wave to transcribe, summarize, and interact with the content—right from the app or the YouTube share menu.

Updated over a month ago

Wave offers two easy ways to import YouTube videos. Both will create a session with the video’s transcript so you can summarize, search, and ask questions.

Method 1: In-App YouTube Import (Recommended)

Paste any YouTube link directly into the Wave app.

  1. Open Wave and go to the All Waves tab

  2. Select YouTube from the session type filters

  3. Tap the YouTube import button that appears

  4. Paste the YouTube URL in the modal

  5. Tap Import to start processing

  6. Wait for processing to complete

  7. You'll be taken straight to your new session

Method 2: Share from the YouTube App

Import YouTube videos directly from the YouTube app with the Share menu.

  1. Open the YouTube app or web browser on your phone

  2. Find the video you want to import

  3. Tap the Share button below the video

  4. Select Wave from the share menu

    • If you don’t see it, tap More and enable Wave

  5. Wave will open automatically and start processing

  6. Wait for processing to complete

  7. View your session once it’s ready

Troubleshooting

❌ “Failed to process YouTube video”

  • Make sure the video has captions

  • Check your internet connection

  • Try copying and pasting the link again

  • Ensure you haven’t hit your import limit

❌ No Transcript Found

  • The video may not have captions or they may be restricted

  • Live streams often don’t have captions until later

  • Try a different video to test

❌ Empty Session

  • The video may still be processing

  • Pull down to refresh the session

  • Age-restricted videos may not work
