Ask Wave About a Session Shared with You

When someone shares a Wave session with you, you don't have to read the whole transcript to find out what happened. Open the session from Shared with me and ask Wave about it. Answers come from the summary and transcript the owner shared with you, and each one points at the moment in the recording it's based on.

Nothing changes for the owner. They keep using the normal chat on their own session, and they never see what you ask.

What to ask

Anything about the conversation itself. For example:

• "What was decided?"
• "What do I need to do, and by when?"
• "I wasn't there — catch me up in five bullets."
• "What did Name say about the budget?"
• "What was left open, and who owns it?"

Wave answers from what the owner shared with you — nothing else in their library, and nothing in yours.

Jump to the moment

Answers cite the transcript as timestamps in square brackets, like [4:32]. Click or tap a timestamp and the player jumps to that spot in the recording, so you can hear it for yourself. If the session has no audio to play, the timestamp still tells you where in the transcript to look.

Your conversation is yours

What you ask, and what Wave answers, belongs to your account:

• The owner can't see it. They see that you have access to the session — not your questions or the answers.
• It follows you. Open the same shared session on your phone, on the web, or in Wave Desktop and the conversation is there.
• You can clear it. Open the tab's menu and choose Clear conversation. That removes the questions and answers for this session on all your devices; it can't be undone.

Wave doesn't keep your questions or the answers in analytics.

When the owner removes your access

A shared session is the owner's, and so is your access to it. If the owner removes you from People with access, resets the link with Also remove everyone who has access, or deletes the session, the session leaves your Shared with me list, the Ask tab goes with it, and your conversation about that session is deleted. If the owner shares it with you again later, you start with a fresh conversation.

A few things to know

• Summary-only shares. If the owner shared just the summary and not the transcript, Wave answers from the summary alone. It can tell you what was decided, but not who said what word for word, and there are no moments to jump to.
• Still processing. If the owner shared a session that hasn't finished processing, Wave tells you it's still processing. Try again once the summary and transcript have filled in.
• Fair-use limits. You can ask up to 10 questions a minute and 200 a day across the sessions shared with you. If you hit the limit, wait a moment and try again.

If you open a shared session and don't see the tab, update the app. Until then, open the same session on app.wave.co.
